This debut financial thriller by Kristine Delano, a former Wall Street executive, thoroughly captivated me!

Just when Meredith should be celebrating the success of the Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) she created—her firm's very first ETF—her trusted assistant begins unraveling. As Meredith struggles to balance the demands of her career, marriage, and family, the first cracks begin to appear at home. Then, when she discovers something may be seriously wrong with the ETF, her professional life starts to fray as well. Is someone setting her up? Several executives at the firm are less than thrilled by her success and would love nothing more than to see her sink in the Titanic fashion.

Delano's first-person voice for Meredith pulled me straight into the story. As a working mother, I appreciated the realistic portrayal of Meredith's constant struggle to excel as an executive while also being a devoted wife and mother. Excelling at either role is exhausting; succeeding at both often feels impossible. The family's communication breakdowns created believable conflicts, and the angst of Meredith's teenage daughter, Erika, brought back memories of raising my own children.

As someone who manages my own IRA portfolio, invests in ETFs, and watches a fair amount of CNBC, I found the financial backdrop especially intriguing. While I didn't fully understand every technical detail of how the fund was being manipulated, it never detracted from my enjoyment of the story. I clearly understood the stakes and knew that what was happening could be career-ending for Meredith.

The Lies We Trade—available from Amazon—is an engaging story packed with relatable characters, family drama, and plenty of suspense. I'm already looking forward to Delano's next novel.
