Beige book cover for Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. A black and white feather rests in the middle of the cover.

Oh, that we could all be like Mr. Theo.

A mysterious man who goes by only the name "Theo" touches the lives of everyone he encounters. Most of us are so wrapped up in our own lives that we barely notice, much less listen to, the ordinary people we meet every day. And, of course, most of us don't have a small fortune at our disposal to bestow on casual acquaintances!

Levi's prose is vivid and sensory, making the story a joy to read. At times, however, he provided more detail than I needed.

The author created an ensemble of colorful characters whose personalities were shaped by their life experiences. By bestowing each one with an artist's portrait of themselves—and more importantly, by listening to their stories without judgement—Theo helps them feel seen and, in turn, helps lighten their burdens.

Omniscient POV is not my favorite, however, I didn't find it distracting enough to detract from the story.

Theo is perhaps a little too perfect, but at the same time, it's refreshing to imagine that someone so genuinely good could exist.

Levi reminds us how much impact we can have on the lives of others when we simply slow down, notice the people around us, and take the time to listen.

As someone who loves a good plot twist, the corkscrew of an ending completely blindsided me. Part of the reveal warmed my heart, but the event leading up to it left me disappointed.

Even so, I enjoyed Theo of Golden and highly recommend it.

Theo of Golden is available on Amazon.
