As a Bride in the Wilderness by E. J. Ashmore is the compelling sequel to For This Very Purpose. The story picks up after Pharaoh releases the Hebrews, following sixteen-year-old Eliza, a Hebrew and former slave in Egypt, and seventeen-year-old Seti, an Egyptian who—after witnessing the miracles God performed to free His people—chooses to follow the one true God.

While the Bible often presents these events with “just the facts,” Ashmore brings them vividly to life. The parting of the Red Sea, the pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, and water flowing from the rock after struck by Moses are rendered with riveting detail that draws readers straight into the wilderness journey.

Readers will vicariously experience the hunger, thirst, and hardships of traveling through hostile desert lands alongside the characters. Ashmore’s meticulous attention to historical customs and daily life makes it clear she conducted extensive research, adding depth and authenticity to the story.

By the end of the book, I was fairly certain I would not have fared well in the desert with the Israelites—making this both a humbling and memorable reading experience. As a Bride in the Wilderness is highly recommended for readers who enjoy richly researched biblical fiction, faith-filled storytelling, and character-driven narratives that bring Scripture to life.

As a Bride in the Wilderness is available on Amazon.
